Open Yappio

Acceptable use

These are the rules for using Yappio. They apply everywhere on it, including direct messages, voice rooms, servers and bots. Servers can add stricter rules of their own. They cannot allow what is banned here.

What is not allowed

Please do not:

  • harass, bully, stalk, threaten or encourage violence against anyone,
  • attack people for who they are, such as their race, ethnicity, religion, sex, gender, sexual orientation, disability or national origin, or share content that promotes hatred of them,
  • share sexual content that involves a minor, in any form, or sexualise children in any way,
  • share sexual content of someone without their consent, or threaten to share it,
  • share, sell or promote illegal goods, services or content,
  • encourage self harm, or share graphic violence or gore to shock people,
  • scam, defraud or phish people, spread malware, or send spam or unwanted bulk messages,
  • pretend to be another person, a staff member or an official account to mislead people,
  • share other people's private information, such as an address or a phone number, without their permission,
  • break someone else's copyright or trademark,
  • use bots, apps or webhooks to do any of the above, or to collect people's personal data in ways they would not expect,
  • use Yappio in a way that breaks the law where you live or where the other person lives.

Child safety

Sexual content involving minors is never allowed. If you see it, report it with the report option in the app, choosing the child safety reason, or write to [email protected]. Do not share it again, even to complain about it.

When we find or are told about child sexual abuse material, we remove it, preserve what is needed as evidence, close the account and report it to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) through its CyberTipline, and to the authorities as US law requires. Child safety reports are reviewed by staff with the right access, who see the material in a limited way. We cannot promise a particular response time.

Do not try to contact, groom or meet children for sexual purposes. Accounts that do so are closed and reported.

Protecting the service

Please also do not:

  • attack, overload or try to get around the protections of Yappio or this website,
  • make accounts in bulk, evade a ban or block, or use another account to come back after one,
  • scrape the service, or collect email addresses or other personal data from it,
  • sell or transfer accounts, or abuse invites, discovery listings or the report tools,
  • access an account, data or part of the system that is not yours,
  • reverse engineer or copy the software except where the law allows it.

Finding a security problem

If you find a weakness, tell us at [email protected] before you tell anyone else, and give us a reasonable time to fix it. Do not access data that is not yours, do not degrade the service while you test, and do not demand anything in return. We will not take action against good faith reports that follow these limits.

What happens if the rules are broken

Depending on how serious it is, we or the owners of a server may remove content, warn, mute (timeout), kick, ban, limit features, suspend or close an account, or remove a server. Content that several different people report can be hidden automatically until a person reviews it. We may keep records of what happened so a banned account cannot simply start over.

We report illegal activity to the relevant authorities where the law requires it or where someone is at risk.

If you think we got it wrong, write to [email protected] and a person will look at it again.

Reporting something

Use the report option on a message, a person, a server or a listing in the app, or write to [email protected] with a link and a short description. Reports are reviewed by people. For copyright, follow the copyright page. For anything about your own data, use the contact page.
