Open Yappio

Cookies and local storage

Yappio uses a few cookies that it needs to work, and no cookies for advertising or tracking. The website sets no cookies at all. Because every cookie is strictly necessary, there is no cookie banner to click through.

Cookies set by the app

When you use Yappio in your browser, it sets these cookies. On the live service their names start with __Host-, which means they only work on the Yappio app address itself, over a secure connection.

  • __Host-yap_sess keeps you signed in. It holds a random sign-in token, lasts up to 180 days and is removed when you sign out.
  • __Host-yap_did is a random device identifier. It lasts up to two years. We use it for security and to stop abuse, for example to recognise a browser that has been banned.
  • __Host-yap_ab is set for 24 hours if a sign-up is refused because of the age requirement. It stops the same browser trying again straight away.

Staff tools

The separate staff tools that we use to run Yappio set their own sign-in cookies. They are used only by staff and not by people using the app.

No advertising or tracking

We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels or third-party analytics in the app. None of these cookies are shared with anyone else, and we do not use them to follow you around other sites.

Local storage

The app saves some preferences in your browser's local storage so it looks and works the same on your next visit, such as your theme, voice settings, message formatting choices and message drafts. This data stays on your device and is not sent to us. You can clear it at any time in your browser's site data settings.

The website at yappio.chat saves one thing, your dark or light theme choice, under the name yappio-theme. It holds the word dark or light.

Payments

When you buy a paid plan you are sent to Stripe's checkout page. Stripe may set its own cookies there. They are covered by Stripe's policies, not these.

The website and analytics

The website sets no cookies and has no analytics at the moment. The code can load a privacy-friendly analytics script that does not use cookies, but only if the operator configures it, and it is off by default. If that is ever turned on, this page and the privacy notice will be updated first.
