Open Yappio

What Yappio does, in more detail.

Five ideas, each there to make talking to people feel lighter. Everything shown here is a preview with sample people; none of it is released yet.

An inbox that holds only what is for you

Replies, voice notes sent to you and events you are invited to land in one short list. Everything else stays in its channel until you go looking.

  • Addressed to youItems appear because someone replied to you, mentioned you or invited you. Volume in a busy server does not change that.
  • A visible endThe list says when nothing else needs you. You can close the app without wondering what you missed.
  • Quiet by defaultChannels do not badge or buzz unless you ask them to. You choose what interrupts you.

Voice notes you can read

Hold to talk, let go, and the note arrives with a transcript. Listeners can read it in a quiet place or play it when it suits them.

  • Transcript next to the audioEvery note is transcribed so it can be skimmed, searched and quoted.
  • A waveform you can scrubSee how long a note is and where the pauses are before you press play.
  • Sent without ceremonyNo recording screen to dismiss. The microphone sits in the message box beside the text field.

Drop-in rooms with a live transcript

A voice room is a place that is simply open. Join when you like, leave quietly, and follow the conversation as text if you cannot turn the sound up.

  • Drop in, leave quietlyJoining does not announce you with a fanfare, and leaving does not need an explanation.
  • Live transcriptLines appear as people speak, so a room works in a library or on a train.
  • See who is talkingA small marker shows the current speaker without taking over the screen.

Servers that feel like places

Each server has a homepage you arrange with widgets: what is happening now, what is next, what is pinned and what people made.

  • Widgets you arrangeLive rooms, upcoming events, pinned notes and galleries. Server owners pick the ones that suit their community.
  • Channels still thereText channels and voice rooms work the way you expect, one click from the homepage.

Screen sharing with a small studio

Watching a share feels like watching a stream, and starting one takes two steps. When you want a tidier result, the studio lets you set the scene before you go live.

  • Overlays with placeholdersAdd text such as {viewers} watching and the number fills itself in.
  • Blur boxesCover a part of the screen that should not be seen, and it stays covered.
  • ScenesSave layouts such as Starting soon, Main and BRB, and switch between them.
